It lights of Miami and throughout the world for Earth Hour 2009

Earth Hour 2009, an annual effort to promote energy conservation by turning on the lights for an hour, happened at 8:30 pm on Saturday. Miami Dade College will participate by switching off or dimming lights many outside the Wolfson Campus from 8:30 to 9:30 pm on Saturday. MDC students mark the event in a rooftop reception at the campus in downtown Miami. There will be food, refreshments and acoustic music on the fifth floor of the terrace of the building 3. Students can study in downtown Miami to other buildings whose employees are also participating in Earth Hour. Miami Mayor Manny Diaz will join the students in compliance since Miami is a city of the flagship Earth Hour. The event is organized in partnership with GenerationEngage an apolitical, non-profit organization that allows young adults to become active citizens and engaged participants in their communities. Some 2,400 cities in 82 countries have signed to participate, six times more than last year. Some of these sites should go dark include the Great Pyramids and the Sphinx in Egypt, the Acropolis in Greece, the Broadway Theater marquees, the Las Vegas Strip, the Eiffel Tower in Paris, Moscow State University and the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur.
